Insolvency Practitioners Raise £1727 for Macmillan Cancer Support

The Poppleton & Appleby ‘Insolvency Practitioners’ Static Bike Challenge.

Here at Poppleton & Appleby we support a number of charities that play a part in the lives of our partners and the wider team. On this occasion, now that we have well and truly settled into our new home at 30 St. Paul’s Square, Birmingham, we decided we would do something a bit different and show that our team of Insolvency Practitioners could still work up a sweat whilst raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. And so the Static Bike Challenge was born.

    How the challenge worked

We’ve done golf days, quiz nights and all the ‘usual’ fund raising type events, but this one required a lot of physical effort too. We used two static exercise bikes (kindly supplied by Watt Bike) for the challenge and set them up in the office courtyard, ready for the event on Thursday 28th September. Static Bikes are what you find in gyms, where devotees grind out the miles as part of their fitness regime.

We split into two teams of 7 people, each captained by one of our partners: Team Matt (Hardy) and Team Andy (Turpin). The task was to see which team could cover the most distance in 3 hours. Easier said than done for 13 insolvency experts, more used to spreadsheets and creditors meetings!

    And the Winner Was…………

In the end, Team Matt proved the strongest and won by 54 miles to 48 miles – that’s an average of 18 miles per hour, which is pretty good going, for a team of Insolvency Practitioners!

More importantly, we raised a total of £1727 for Macmillan, a sum which included the money raised via our yearly coffee morning, again in support of Macmillan. So a big thank you to all of our supporters, neighbours, sponsors, and, of course, Team Matt and Team Andy. We hear that they are recovering well!

Fundraising is hugely important to Macmillan. As they say, without people doing events like this to raise funds for their vital work, they wouldn’t exist.

Matt and Andy like to keep us on our toes, so look out for another fund raising event soon!
